The honest take

Canada is what happens when you take North American opportunity and layer on top of it a constitutional commitment to not being a jerk. The immigration system is structured, points-based, and β€” relative to its neighbours β€” transparent. Toronto is a global city that genuinely believes in itself. Vancouver is impossibly beautiful and correspondingly expensive. Montreal is where you go if you want Europe without the transatlantic flight and with significantly better poutine. Winters will test you. The summers will make you forget the winters existed. This is by design.
